Grit, Grace, and Guitar Strings
Music first became part of Rader’s life in simple ways—singing while mowing lawns and in the kids’ church choir, and later picking up a guitar in high school. Entirely self-taught on guitar and drums, he formed his first band in his church youth group, cutting his teeth on covers of Relient K, Blink-182, Fall Out Boy, and Panic! at the Disco. Those early influences still echo in his work today, woven into a sound that fuses folk storytelling with a driving rock edge.
Over the years, Rader played anywhere he could—small-town events, church stages, and eventually local festivals—slowly building his chops and his audience. But in 2021, he pressed pause on his musical momentum to answer another calling: working with unaccompanied immigrant children at the U.S. border. Soon after, he moved to Austin, where he dedicated himself to serving the unhoused through local shelters. These experiences deepened the emotional well from which he writes, giving his music a raw honesty and compassion that resonates beyond the stage.
Today, alongside his music career, Rader works with a nonprofit veterinary clinic, bringing low-cost vaccines and spay/neuter services to the community. He also uplifts fellow artists in Austin’s music scene by hosting a monthly open mic at Vegan Nom Food Park—a space for connection, creativity, and collaboration.
Rader has made his mark on the Austin scene—becoming the first-ever artist-in-residence at Sign Bar, playing monthly shows with the Texas Farmers Market, and performing for five consecutive years at the Watermelon Thump. Whether solo or backed by his band, his live shows are known for their connection, energy, and storytelling—a space where every lyric feels lived-in.
